Foundation of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East

Foundation of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East promotes and supports the research and teaching of the Middle Eastern languages and cultures. To realise its aim, the Foundation supports the Finnish Institute in the Middle East and gives out research and travel grants to graduate and advanced students as well as professionals.

Grants

FIME awards grants for postgraduate studies, research and field work and for Arabic language courses. Every other year FIME grants the Aimo T. Nikolainen Grant aimed at ecumenical and other research in line with Aimo T. Nikolainen's life work.

Apply for 2026 grants

The Foundation of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East’s grant application period is open 14.1. –15.2.2026. You can apply for travel grants for postgraduate studies, research and research trips, as well as grants for Arabic language courses. Travel grants are awarded for research and research-related trips in the Middle East, and Arabic grants are awarded for at least one month of Arabic language study in the Middle East. In addition, you can apply for Friends of the Finnish Institute in the Middle East’s pro gradu stipend, which awarded by the aforementioned association, and Aimo T. Nikolainen Grant for Ecumenical Research, which is funded by the Ordo Sancti Constantini Magni of Finland. Read more on the foundation’s website.
